Eco LED lights for Washington DC

23 May 2012,

Washington, DC heads for eco SSL as the basis for the city streets lighting.

The first step of the giant project that has been taken up by the authorities of Washington has just been completed. Washington, DC plans that the investment in eco LED lighting solutions will reduce the emissions of the traditional incandescent lights of about 700 tons. All the luminaries have been provided by Lighting Science Group. More than 1300 city lights have already been retrofitted.

As the Mayor of Washington, Vincent Gray, claimed - "Already results show these new light fixtures are saving energy – 57-60% - compared to the old mercury vapor and high-pressure sodium lights." He also admitted that an even more impressive amount of energy saving rate could be reached if they expanded the programme to all the streets within the area of the District of Columbia. "That would be a great down payment on a truly Sustainable DC."
